There’s nothing worse than joining on a video call and not being able to hear what is going on, or the others on the line not being able to hear you. After all, even a lousy video feed can turn a video call into a regular audio-only conversation, and honestly, that’s not the worst thing in the world after all, you should see how I’m dressed right now.

There are a few audio problems common on Zoom calls that have simple fixes, and we’re going to walk you through how to quickly diagnose and remedy them in the steps below. Though the exact process may differ slightly from device to device, chances are you will need to grant Zoom permission to access the camera and microphone on your computer before you start your first call.

If you are having audio issues, it could be that you breezed pass this step during setup, but not to worry — it can easily be fixed! Here’s how to do it on a Mac. If camera and microphone permissions are not the issue, perhaps some of the device’s audio settings were inadvertently adjusted. When I go into the control panel, I have two headsets show up. If I try to set this as the default, I can not hear anything else while the zoom meeting is running, the test tone will not play, and the volume mixer simply will not work.

If I set this as the default device, however, all my problems are solved except that the audio quality is very poor and there is always static in the background. I don’t think there is any solution to this, just wanted to let you know in case my headphones are bad or this is not supposed to happen.

Edit: the “stereo” headphones bring up the quality significantly and the volume mixer works with it but only when I’m not in a zoom meeting. Could you explain how you changed the audio input device to the same as system for both microphone and speakers? I had the same problem. I solved this by changing the audio input device to same as system, both microphone and speakers.

If your speakers appear to be on and the volume is up, but you still cannot hear the audio, check Zoom’s audio settings and select a new speaker.

Click the upward arrow to the right of the Mute button at the bottom of the Zoom window. Choose another speaker from the speaker selection list and try the audio test again. If you do not see a speaker listed, this means your computer does not have any speakers connected.

Open device manager and Open up “Sound, video and game controllers” and right click on the Realtek item underneath and choose uninstall. Instead, you should change the sound settings via the Zoom meeting. You can do this one three ways: 1. Before you join the meeting, you should see an option to test your computer audio. As a rule of thumb, I always check my audio to ensure I can hear the other meeting attendants and that they can hear me. You can test both your speakers and your microphone at this time. If you have the Zoom app installed, you can go to the settings the icon is in the shape of a gear.

Then go to Audio. From there you can change what you need for you Microphone. If you are already in the meeting, you can click on the arrow pointing upwards next to the Mute button. From there you can change speaker and microphone as well as test both. I hope these solutions provided the information you needed. Please let me know if you need further assistance. When I am in a zoom meeting, I am unable to hear anything except for the audio from the meeting. This does not mean that I cannot hear other participants in the meeting, just that if there is another app with audio playing at the same time, I cannot hear it. I don’t know anyone else with this problem and can’t find any help on this issue on the Zoom help website.

I use a Bluetooth headset, and all my drivers are up to date. I can hear sounds from other apps only when I am not in a meeting. This thread is locked.
